CAMPAIGN: Upload A Video Letting Rick Ross Know that RAPE Lyrics will NOT be Tolerated
Yesterday we told you about some deeply troubling lyrics performed by rapper Rick Ross, in which he seems to describe and make light of date rape.
A featured guest on Rocko’s “U.O.E.N.O.,” Ross raps: “Put molly all in her champagne, she ain’t even know it. I took her home and I enjoyed that, she ain’t even know it.”
In response to these reprehensible lyrics, a campaign has been launched by Mark Anthony Neal, Regina Bradley, Heidi Renee Lewis, David J. Leonard, and Brittney Cooper asking for you to upload a video shaming Rick Ross for such harmful, dangerous words.
These videos will be compiled into a series of two-minute clips and spread far and wide, with the intent to “shame” Rick Ross and others – in the spirit that your mother would shame you for acting a fool.
Tired of being angry and asking for apologies from these artists and their corporate supporters, we are enlisting your support in a “shaming statement” in response to Rick Ross and others.
With inspiration from Rosa Clemente (see below), we are asking you to record a short video of you “performing” the three lines below (with your own variations):
“Sex without consent is RAPE. That’s what you SHOULD know.
Sex without consent is RAPE. That’s what WE know.
Rick Ross, it’s a shame that YOU don’t know.”
Email your clip to firstname.lastname@example.org and upload it to youtube.
And be sure to share this call FAR AND WIDE!
