Breaking: Ferguson Police Chief Has Resigned
From USA Today:
Embattled Ferguson, Mo., Police Chief Thomas Jackson, whose department received scathing criticism from the Justice Department for racially biased policing, offered his resignation Wednesday to the Ferguson City Council, according to a Missouri state senator and media reports.
Sen. Maria Chappelle-Nadal, who represents the city, learned about the possible resignation from a city official whom she declined to identify. She said she did not know whether the council had accepted the resignation. Sources also confirmed to KSDK in St. Louis that Jackson had resigned.
Jackson’s resignation takes effect March 19, The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.
Jackson, 57, will be the third top city official to leave following the Justice Department’s investigation that found systemic racial bias by police and court officials. Judge Ronald Brockmeyer and City Manager John Shaw resigned earlier this week.
